During or topic this term we have explored lots of different festivals and celebrations from many cultures! We wrote letters in role for the gunpowder plot; retold the story of Rama and Sita for Diwali; wrote a diary entry as a WW2 soldier living in the trenches as part of our learning around Remembrance Sunday; baked Babka bread for the Jewish festival of Hannukah; wrote a thanksgiving poem and researched a country of our choice to create a fact file about their Christmas traditions. What a lot of learning!

This term our topic has been ‘Inventors and Explorers’. We started our topic by learning all about the famous Bristolian engineer, Isambard Kingdom Brunel. We then became engineers ourselves by designing and testing which materials would best protect an egg from a drop of 2 meters high! Later, we researched an inventor of our choice and wrote a biography for them. We found out about the lives of Bill Gates, George Devol and many more. We finished our inventions learning by designing our own invention and creating a prototype. We then launched our explorer’s topic by learning all about John Cabot and Christopher Columbus. We imagined we were explorers from the 1400s travelling to a tropical island and wrote some beautiful setting descriptions. Finally, we finished of term’s topic by learning about the Antarctic explorer Ernest Shackleton and his Nimrod expedition.
